Howard Hughes bought 25,000 acres of Summerlin land in 1952 for just $3 per acre—talk about a steal! He never built on it during his lifetime, and the land sat empty for 30 years before his company announced plans in 1988. Today, it's one of the most affluent communities in Nevada with an average household income over $139,000. But here's the fun part: Summerlin has MORE PARKS than any other community in Southern Nevada—nearly 250 of them! Every neighborhood is required to have its own park, because apparently Summerlin takes its green space seriously. The Las Vegas Aviators baseball team plays at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin, and the team's name is a tribute to Howard Hughes, who was also an aviator (in addition to being an eccentric billionaire). Summerlin even holds one of the world's first Jack Nicklaus-Designed Bear's Best golf courses and Nevada's only two Tournament Players Club (TPC) courses. For the nature lovers, the 150-mile Summerlin Trail System will eventually connect all the way to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. And the kicker?
