Aliante was literally born from a $47.2 million auction in 2001, when North Valley Enterprises won the bid for 1,900 acres at about $25,000 per acre—and boy, did they make good use of it! The community was actually designed to help North Las Vegas retain successful residents, with the mayor saying people wouldn't have to "move out when they have a little success" anymore. Mission accomplished! Here's a fun twist: Aliante was the sixth top-selling master-planned community in the entire United States in 2004, just two years after it was announced. The community features a 24-mile interconnecting trail system—that's longer than a marathon, folks—perfect for working off all those meals at the Aliante Casino's restaurants. Speaking of the casino, the Aliante Casino + Hotel opened in 2008 and houses a 16-theater movie complex, because apparently watching movies in regular theaters just wasn't exciting enough.
